A chief academic officer or provost is usually found in a higher education institution. Major responsibilities of a chief academic officer include providing administrative oversight to educational and research affairs. Other duties include overseeing academic personnel, and supervising in developing, achieving, and enhancing educational programs and related services. A chief academic officer typically reports to the chancellor or rector as the case may be. A chief academic officer is usually required to have a master’s degree in educational leadership or preferably a juris doctorate from an accredited college or university. The position may also require 8+ years of experience in an administrative or managerial role in a school of higher education.
