When my friend’s mother was stricken with kidney stones, she reported excruciating pain in her back. Knowing this, I remembered when I too had pain in my lower back and thought that it might be related to my kidneys. Although my pain had been mild, compared to her severe, sharp pain, I was still concerned. While online searching for a topic that I could write a research paper on, I decided to enter into the search box “lower back pain kidney” to see if anything of interest would come up. I did find out that the pain of nephrolithiasis, or kidney stones can cause very severe pain in the flank area of the back.
