February 16, 2010 5:13 am HealthWhat do Japanese Knotweed plants and Red Wine Grapes have in common? It is definitely not the place it is indigenous to. Japanese Knotweeds grow naturally in Eastern Asia while Wine Grapes are common in Europe or the Americas. Knotweeds can now be found in some parts of Europe and America but are considered as an invasive type of plant. It is actually the biological compound, Resveratrol that is found in both plants. It is is responsible for lowering blood pressure and is used to treat hypertension. Japanese Knotweed plants are more commonly used to produce Resveratrol supplements as it will take tons of red wine grapes to produce the same amount. Resveratrol is known to reduce blood pressure and is also an anti-aging antioxidant.
