One of the coolest things I did during my tour through central park was explore the main geothermal areas. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it is something that has always interested me. Around the town of Taupo there are loads of places where you can actually see steam produced by the geothermal activity going on in the earth’s crust and it’s a pretty cool thing to see. One of my favorite spots was Orakei Korako which is one of the most active thermal parts of the region and there was everything from mud pools to geysers. Seeing the awesome silica terraces was an experience in itself and the amazing color of the water was very cool.
